Tricks

Trick Dog (often called just ‘Tricks’) is a newer dog sport, which became official in 2020. Each level has a list of tricks that you pick from to perform. Many tricks have foundations in basic obedience, and some can involve complicated skills — especially as you progress and the tricks have multiple components.
Benefits
Training for Tricks involves short, focused bursts which can really build engagement. It provides mental stimulation and channels energy into a fun activity that builds the bond between dog and handler.
Trick Dog is a more flexible sport as you can select the tricks best suited to you and your dog to work on and trial with.
Before you start
Dogs will need to be crated in class, and comfortable being left in the crate while handlers are in another room. When actively training, your dog is off-lead, so you should be at a level where your dog is at your side at all times.
Some tricks require equipment, which will need to be brought to training.
Trialling:
Trick Dog trials are a fun way to showcase your dog’s skills. As rewards may be given after each trick in Starter and Novice level, and praise given throughout the test, it’s a great introduction to trialling in dog sports.
